Traveling Guide to Chile

Chile is a long and narrow country in South America that stretches 4,270 km from north to south yet amazingly only has a width of 350 km at the widest section of the country from east to west. The eastern side of the country has a wild mountain range running along it known as the Andes Mountain range. It is here that the countries border with Argentina is found.

Santiago is the countries capital city and arguably the most modern and up to date city in South America. It is also an area that is known for having a high crime rate and caution must be used when travelling here, more so if you are backpacking and carrying many items. You can read about my first-hand experience with the crime rate in Chile.

Locations that are of most interests to budget travellers and general tourists include Easter Island, San Pedro de Atacama, Torres del Paine National Park and the capital city, Santiago. Things to do in Chile include hiking in the Torres del Paine National Park with the most famous hike available to outdoor travellers being the 6 days W trek trail. Other activities in Chile include skiing just outside the capital city of Santiago, stargazing in the Atacama Desert, checking out the large head statues, known as Moai, on Easter Island and watching Geyser del Tatio exploding liquid from beneath the earth.
