Budget Level: Travelling in South America is relatively cheap for any type of travel style. Backpackers and budget travellers can survive for months in the same style of travel that is possible in Europe or Australia for only a few weeks.
Safety: Travelling in South America can be risky at times. Staying in the well-known tourist areas will ensure you are the safest. When visiting more unknown tourist destinations crime rates can be high. I had everything I was travelling with stolen in Chile. Keep an eye on your belongings and be smart to try and prevent having your trip interrupted like me.
