Have you started a blog and now want to take the next step and earn an income from it???
Have you been trying to find out exactly where to start to turn that next viewer into a paying customer???
Do you want to free up your time and increase your income all while you are on holidays, sleeping or spending time with friends or family???
Let me give you a guide on what I have found to work and how I started out…
This is the method most people would have heard of or be familiar with when wanting to start making an income from your blog online. Now days almost all brands have some sort of affiliate way of advertising there products.
How affiliate marketing works are pretty simple, an advertiser wants to sell their product and will allow you to advertise that product via your website or social media accounts.
They will give you a unique code and that will track every purchase you are able to get for that company. From every sale, you will earn a percentage of that sale.
How you advertise your unique code is completely up to you, you can put links in the text, create banners or advertisement anyway you think a person will click and buy a product.
If you are looking for Affiliate Marketing inspiration please check out my blog on which brands I have found the best.
- Handy tip – try to be selective with what you advertise and only advertise product and companies that fit your website and will be handy to your readers. As a good rule I also only use affiliate connections that I also have used or use myself
This is probably up there with the most common method any bloggers use to make an income from your blog. Instead of working directly for an advertiser or company you will sign up your website with Google and they match ads to your site to display.
Every time someone clicks on one of these ads (CPC) you will get paid per click or once 1000 clicks are achieved (CPM) you will get paid. It won’t make you rich but is a nice and easy way to get some income coming in.
Obviously, this method will increase your income profits the more your traffic and audience grow.
Selling Digital Products:
Instead of advertising for someone or to increase your income options, some bloggers now are starting to make and sell digital products.
The main guideline with this option is to look at your current audience and the audience you are trying to attract and make it relevant for their needs. The online mentor program run by “A Walsh Life” was the first course I joined when I set out to achieve the laptop lifestyle. It is called “Off the Record” and proved the circuit breaker that started everything for me.
Find out the other courses I have joined and used to help build Aussieinwanderlust into a profitable travel blog.
These guys really know their stuff and can certainly speed up the time it takes for you to begin to earn and live from your own blog
I have begun to manage clients social media accounts to enable them to free up their time and concentrate on getting their website or business up and running. As you all would know to achieve a large and engaged audience on social media can be a tedious, time-consuming job.
Sell Membership To Parts Of Your Website:
One way to make some great income
Sell Products Like Tee Shirts Or Photography:
Try selling products that you make yourself. I have seen some blogging sites selling their photography or making fashion items that readers are interested in buying.
There are companies out there nowadays that will print your photos or fashion products and ship them straight to your clients for you all via your website and all you need to do is sit back and watch the sales come in. Some only make products once a certain number has been reached and others require you to notify them when a recorded sale is made but all these ways are a great and creative way to get some extra income rolling in.
Companies like TeeSpring or Spreadshirt are great companies to start looking at if building an online clothing store is something you fancy doing.
Accept Sponsored Articles And Posts:
This can work quite well if the right brand is willing to pay you to place an article or post on your website. They will benefit from it just as much as you if done well and it looks natural on your site.
Beware though and cautious not to jump at every or any offer that will not suit the style and layout of your website. If you start including too much of a mixture of styles and content you will quickly lose the audience you have worked so hard to achieve.
Talk to me today about either having me write a sponsored post on your blog or submitting a post to feature on Aussieinwanderlust.
Build A Large Email List:
Everyone now days will talk about building their list, what they are referring to is their email list. By building this you are engaging with people repeatedly and those people will come to trust and enjoy your content. Leading to many ways you can earn an income from your blog with these loyal subscribers.
Once that occurs people will be more comfortable and willing to buy a product you are advertising through you. This takes time and is certainly a way of building that trust and long term customer rather than a quick sale but a process that is well worth the effort.
For anyone reading this, it would be great to have you part of my email list and allow me to continue to share my latest blog posts with you. Please subscribe below or at the bottom of my page.
- Remember not to spam your followers as this is the fastest way to lose their trust and of course their email address and future service.
Create An Online Store:
Make an area on your website dedicated to selling products that your readers will be interested in buying. I personally have set up a store with Amazon that I know will interest my readers. They will buy directly from Amazon and I will get a percentage of that sale.
You can make your store completely unique and use any of the popular e-commerce platforms out there like Shopify or WooCommerce.
Add A Hire or Work With Me Page To Your Website:
This is just a page somewhere easy to find on your website simply advertising or offering your services to anyone that might visit your website. I have one that has created opportunities that I may not have received otherwise, you can find my “Work with Me” page here.
If you are interested in partnering with Aussieinwanderlust then please reach out to me today and we can discuss your ideas or view my MediaKit for more information.
Include some information on your reach, the services you can offer and some contact information. You might just land a sale or a few from advertising about your Freelance work options.
I hope these ideas will inspire you and start turning your blog or website into an income tool. Who knows maybe someday you can potentially work for yourself and not worry about the 9-5 boss that is reaping the rewards of your hard work…
It’s becoming a dream that turns into a reality much more often these days.

I’m sure some of you are reading this article and dreaming about living all of this but are just not sure where to begin or how to even start a blog. Don’t worry I was like you and spent months researching how successful people had made money from blogging, the computer side of things intimidated me and I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in what I had to share.
Best bit advice I can give “Go for it”… the blogging community is friendly and others are only too happy to offer advice
Starting a travel blog the right way
I have either taught myself a lot by doing loads of research or enrolling in desired courses and mentor groups. Some certainly have been more beneficial than others. Below are some blogs I have written that can give you some great FREE advice.
As I said I have tried and tested a few of the so-called “great courses” on the market. Some have been fantastic and others have been a complete flop. Below are the three that have really benefited my learning and earning capacity online.
We all love to find tools or resources that make things easier and quicker in life. In blogging, this is no exception and can be vital to ensure you get the time you need for more important tasks. Below are some of my favourite blogging resources.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance is a must these days so you have a piece of mind you’re covered for anything that could go wrong while on your trip. I now never go on a trip away without travel insurance. I’ve been using World Nomads for the past few years.
My favourite companies that offer the best service and value are:
- World Nomads (little more expensive but covers everything)
- SafetyWing (cheaper option to just cover you for health issues)
If you discovered this blog for the first time today or are a regular reader that is yet to subscribe, then it would be a perfect time to start now. I have a lot of new content coming soon that will include more on the good times I had in Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina plus helpful tips on African countries and Europe. Subscribe now.
Other tools I use to run my website
StudioPress Theme with Genisis Framework – The WordPress free themes are a good basic platform but don’t allow much customisation and can be limited for your website. Purchasing a premium theme will give you large and noticeable differences right from the start.
OptinMonster – Once you begin to gain traffic to your blog or website the next step is to start converting those visitors into subscribers. This way you can begin to communicate with your visitors in a more personal way. Share your latest blog posts with people you know are interested in your content and share deals on travel or sales etc for products you use.
ConvertKit – The software I use to ensure I stay in contact and in the thoughts of my loyal subscribers. You can now join ConvertKit for FREE and begin using their amazing service.
Tailwind – The platform that allows me to schedule my pins to Pinterest automatically. This saves me hours of time a week and ensures that Pinterest stays my number one traffic source for visitors to my blog. Try Tailwind FREE for a month and watch your blog traffic skyrocket.
Canva – This is a FREE or premium tool you will find so useful when it comes to making your social media banners and graphics for your website. I make all my Pinterest pins for my website with Canva.
Grammarly – A free tool you can attach to your website that will auto check your word documents for spelling and grammar errors. It also allows you to fix the errors with a simple click of the mouse.
Courses I have taken to improve my blog, grow my traffic and monetize my blog
The SuperStar Blogging course by Nomadic Matt – A blogging course offered by arguably the most successful travel blogger on the internet. It steps you through the complete process to of starting a blog and even offers website tech support.
Making Sense Of Affiliate Marketing – Once your blog is up and running the next step for most is to begin finding ways to monetize it. Michelle is a genius at explaining how to do exactly this through affiliate marketing. There is also a really engaging Facebook Group where other members support each other.
Pinterest Traffic Avalanche Course – Alex and Lauren were one of the first people to harness the powers of Pinterest and deliver huge amounts of traffic to their website. With it comes many different ways to monetize your blog further. The course comes with videos, guides and support to get your Pinterest account delivering traffic to your website for free.
