Traveling Guide to Botswana
Botswana is a destination in Africa that has lots to offer for different tourists. Many people travel through Botswana as part of an African safari, usually from Cape Town to Victoria Falls. I have done such a safari myself and have a few blog posts below to assist with anyone planning to complete a safari for themselves.
While travelling through Botswana you are sure to notice the dry arid climate that it has. This is because around 80% of the country is covered by the Kalahari Desert. Botswana is also one of the richer economies in Africa and has one of the worlds highest growth rates since the 1960’s thanks to the availability of diamond mining through the country.
Without a doubt, the two most popular destinations for travellers in Botswana are the Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park. The Okavango Delta is one of the largest inland deltas found anywhere in the world and has a large amount of wildlife. Popular trips for tourists to do in the Okavango Delta are a scenic flight where you can get a birds-eye view of the landscape and ecosystem plus also get the opportunity to spot large herds of elephants, zebra and buffalo. While the other activity is a mini safari that allows you to travel into the Okavango Delta via a traditional canoe and spend an evening camping inside the delta with a traditional family. I have done this trip and can’t recommend it enough.
The Chobe National Park is the other destination that should be visited while travelling in Botswana. You can do a variety of activities which include sunset cruises on the Chobe River, day safaris and overnight safaris. While doing these the chances of spotting wildlife is extremely high. The Chobe National Park has a population of over 120,000 elephants and is one of the locations in Africa where spotting all of the “Big Five” is possible, although the numbers of rhinos are very low.
